Terra sigillatta does not cover clay as enamel. On the opposite it reveals the original clay by its transparency, warmth and velvety touch.
As always in ceramics one starts a technique and discovers a new world.: the search of clay, its harvesting, its decantation then the unpredictable magic transmutation of matter and color by fire, finally the disclosure of clay constraints by smoke. The clay comes to life beyond the matter.
The transformation of clay motivates us to search more and find other compatibilities between clay, terra sigillata,,luster, metallic salts, firing… oppositions between matt and shine: a game of equilibrium between light and shadow.
